Hwy 17 → Hwy 1 → Rogers Pass → Hwy 5 Coquihalla
住宿 Banff / Canmore(旺季需提前订)。
梦莲湖私家车全年禁入,需坐 shuttle(见下方攻略)。
⚠️ 别走 1 号 Fraser Canyon(山火关闭)。
官网 reservation.pc.gc.ca,订 9/1 早班(1 小时时段)。

Depart Aug 26, 2026 · Arrive Sep 3, 2026 · Family car · Solo or two drivers
Route · Hwy 17 → Hwy 1 → Rogers Pass → Hwy 5 Coquihalla
The first 5 days are the driving core; once you reach the Rockies it turns into sightseeing. You cross 3 time zones — a total of 3 hours slower by the time you reach Vancouver (EDT → PDT).
~700 km · 7.5 h
Via Barrie and Sudbury. Stops along the way (in order): Sudbury Big Nickel (photo op) → Echo Bay Loon Dollar (about 6 hours from Toronto). Cell signal drops after Sudbury — cache offline maps in advance. In the evening, stroll the downtown Boardwalk and watch the sunset over the water.
~700 km · 8 h
Along Lake Superior — the most scenic stretch of the whole trip. Lots of moose/deer; dawn and dusk are the most dangerous times, so avoid driving at night. In the evening, watch the sunset by the lake in Thunder Bay. Fill up whenever you see a station between SSM and Thunder Bay — they're few and pricey.
~700 km · 7.5 h
Canadian Shield lake country (lakes + granite + boreal forest) — underrated scenery. Entering Manitoba sets the clock back 1 hour — a free bonus hour.
~570 km · 6 h
Pure prairie — the flattest, plainest day. Late August is harvest season, so you'll see golden wheat fields out the window. In the evening, stroll Wascana Lake and watch the sunset at the Legislative Building.
~760 km · 8 h
Via Medicine Hat. Entering Alberta sets the clock back another hour. Leave at first light and rest early.
~130 km · 1.5 h
The gateway to the Rockies. Visit Banff town, Bow Falls, and the Sulphur Mountain gondola. Stay in Banff / Canmore (book ahead — peak season).
Lake Louise · Moraine Lake · Icefields Parkway
Moraine Lake is closed to private vehicles year-round — you must take a shuttle (see the guide below). Morning light is best: do Moraine Lake first, then Lake Louise.
~500 km · 6.5 h
Via Golden, Rogers Pass, and Revelstoke — the most beautiful stretch of the Rockies. Cell signal is spotty through Rogers Pass.
~355 km · 4 h
Take Hwy 5 (Coquihalla) via Merritt and Hope into Vancouver. ⚠️ Do NOT take Hwy 1 through Fraser Canyon (closed due to wildfire).
Key point: Moraine Lake is closed to private vehicles year-round — you must take a shuttle. Lake Louise allows driving, but the parking lot fills before 6 am.
Book at reservation.pc.gc.ca for a morning slot on Sep 1 (1-hour windows). Adult $12.75, senior $6, 17 & under $4, plus a $3 online booking fee ($6 by phone, 1-877-737-3783). 60% of seats are released 2 days ahead at 8:00 MDT — so book at 8 am on Aug 30.
Park at the ski resort's Park & Ride lot (free with a shuttle booking) and ride the shuttle in — don't fight for lakeside parking.
Morning light is best: shuttle to Moraine Lake first and hike up the Rockpile for the classic view; then take the free Lake Connector shuttle (first-come, first-served) to Lake Louise. Last return is 7:30 pm.
Fuel estimate roughly $500–700 (depending on car / consumption).
